The 2025 KOVO foreign player tryout has begun. Attention is focusing on who will be the foreign players who will enjoy the men's and women's courts in the upcoming season of volleyball V-League.

Organized by the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO), the latest foreign player tryout kicked off in Istanbul, Turkiye on Thursday (Korea time). The men's and women's tryouts will be held until Saturday, and the draft will be held on Sunday.

A total of 207 foreign players (135 for men and 72 for women) applied for this year's tryout, and the number was greatly reduced to reflect the evaluation of the clubs. Moreover, among the players who tried to participate, cancellations occurred due to various reasons, resulting in the final number of participants being 32 for men and 34 for women.

On Thursday, the first day of the tryout, Mustafa Ozel Gymnasium in Istanbul underwent physical measurements and medical tests. Twenty-five of the 32 foreign players in the men's team visited the site. Those who did not attend the event will participate later on.

The athletes measured their height and weight, and their physical abilities were tested, ranging from standing jumps to standing reach and running jumps. Sherone Benon Evans, the Canadian figure skater who received high marks in the men's team preference survey, was 202 centimeters tall and weighed 116 kilograms. A member of the Sakai Blazers in Japan's first division league, he recorded standing jump of 49.4 centimeters, standing reach of 272 centimeters, and running jump of 372 centimeters. Middle blocker Jose Maso, who also drew attention, was 201 centimeters tall and weighed 90 kilograms. His standing jump was 57.9 centimeters, standing reach of 266 centimeters, and running jump of 366 centimeters.

All 34 foreign players in the women's team showed up. Elisa Zanete of Italy, an Apogit spiker who recorded the highest score in the team's preference survey, measured 191 centimeters tall and weighed 78 kilograms. She measured 37.2 centimeters in standing jump, 251 centimeters in standing reach, and 318 centimeters in running jump. Victoria Demidova of Russia, who was active in the German top division last season and weighed 73 kilograms, recorded 31.6 centimeters in standing jump, 243 centimeters in standing reach, and 308 centimeters in running jump.

Since then, the players' postures for medical tests have been quite serious. The medical test team consisting of two local doctors conducted interviews ranging from the basics to the details and thoroughly monitored the players' physical conditions. The questionnaire was composed of a total of 27 questions, each of 15 types. It also included questions on the presence or absence of simple symptoms, injury and history of surgery.

The medical team laid the athlete on his back to check his knee joint condition and checked whether there was anything wrong with fully flexing and stretching his legs. Each athlete underwent a medical examination for about five minutes.

After completing medical tests, the players warmed up lightly to prepare for the practice game that will take place from Friday to Sunday. Officials from the men's and women's teams observed the players warming up with hawk eyes. Players must show their best physical condition and performance in practice to be expected to be nominated by the teams. 메이저놀이터
